Summary

BillyBill is a local-first bill-splitting app for iOS and Android. Receipt images, recognized receipt text, bills, participant names, amounts, and trips are processed and stored on your device. BillyBill does not require an account and does not contain advertising, developer-operated analytics, tracking, cloud sync, or developer-operated server collection.

Information Handled By The App

BillyBill can handle receipt images, recognized receipt text, merchant or bill titles, participant names, bill amounts, payment allocations, trip details, dates, notes, and currency codes that you enter or review.

Processing, SDKs, And Diagnostics

• On iOS, receipt text recognition runs on the device using Apple Vision.
• On iOS 18 or later, receipt translation runs on the device using Apple's Translation framework only when you choose Translate receipt text. iOS may download the required language models. BillyBill does not save the translation or use it to change receipt text, line items, totals, or allocations.
• On Android, receipt text recognition runs on the device using the bundled Google ML Kit text-recognition SDK. Document scanning is provided by Google ML Kit through Google Play services. The scanner flow operates on-device, and Google Play services may download its scanner UI, models, and other resources before first use.
• Google's ML Kit Android data-disclosure guidance states that ML Kit SDKs may collect limited device information, application information, performance data, and installation identifiers for diagnostics and usage analytics. Google states that this diagnostic data is encrypted in transit and is not transferred to third parties.
• BillyBill does not operate its own analytics or tracking service and does not receive Google ML Kit diagnostic data.
• BillyBill does not send receipt images, recognized receipt text, bills, participant names, amounts, trips, or backups to a server operated by BillyBill or its developer.
• On iOS, under Apple's App Privacy definition, BillyBill does not collect data because the iOS app's data is not transmitted off the device to the developer or a third party.

Camera And Receipt Images

Receipt scanning starts only when you choose it. On iOS, BillyBill requests camera access for receipt scanning. On Android, the Google Play services document scanner uses its own camera permission and returns only the pages you choose to BillyBill. Scanned page images are processed for text recognition and stored with the bill in BillyBill's private app container so that you can compare the print with the recognized details later. You can remove one saved receipt picture or all saved pictures from a bill at any time. Recognized text can also be stored with a bill so that you can review or reparse it.

Storage, Retention, And Deletion

Bills, trips, and saved receipt pictures are stored in BillyBill's private app container on your device. The current and previous valid snapshots are retained locally for recovery. Removing a picture or deleting a record removes it from the current snapshot; it can remain temporarily in the previous local recovery snapshot until another successful save or until the app is deleted. Deleting BillyBill removes its local app container according to the operating system's app-deletion behavior.

Clipboard And Sharing

BillyBill reads clipboard text only when you tap a paste action. BillyBill writes text to the clipboard only when you tap a copy action. When you choose Share, the information is sent to the app or service you select and is then governed by that service's privacy practices.

Backup Export And Restore

When you choose Export backup, BillyBill creates a JSON file containing your complete saved bills and trips. This can include saved receipt pictures, participant names, amounts, dates, merchant or bill titles, allocations, notes, and saved raw OCR text. The backup is sent only to the app, service, or storage location you select. Keep exported backups private because they are readable files outside BillyBill's protected app container.

When you choose Restore from backup, BillyBill reads the file you select and, after confirmation, replaces the current local data with the validated backup contents. BillyBill does not send imported or exported backups to a developer-operated server.

Security

BillyBill uses the iOS or Android app sandbox and private local files. Android backup and device-transfer extraction are disabled for BillyBill's app data. No method of storage is risk-free, so keep your device and operating system protected and up to date.

Children

BillyBill is not designed to collect personal information from children and does not provide accounts, messaging, advertising, or user-generated public content.
